Hotel du Vin Wedding

Venue: Hotel du Vin, Glasgow

I was at the ever-brilliant Hotel Du Vin in Glasgow this March with the lovely Melanie and Brian, who were just lucky enough to celebrate their wedding before the world went into COVID lockdown soon after. The venue – officially known as Hotel Du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens – is a stunning escape from the city despite its West End location. I have shot there previously, and I consider it to be one of my favourite!

Despite the sense of uncertainty at the time and the virus being the topic of conversations, the guests were all in high spirits. It was a smaller wedding, which made it easy to chat with people, and everyone seemed like they knew everyone – all overjoyed to be there, celebrating the marriage of their loved ones.

Aesthetically, the day was beautiful. The hotel is stunning and doesn’t need a lot of added décor, safe for a few flowers dotted around to complement the simple beauty of the rooms. The bride looked great, the flowers and cake were lovely, and there was a fantastic band called Manhattan who played into the night whilst the guests danced.

However, the show was stolen by the three-year-old flower girl, Aria, just loved her role (and her dress!), and smiled the whole day, making everyone smile. Brian’s two best men gifted the couple some bottles Corona, in a funny jibe at the virus. People were kept laughing by the brilliant humanist, David Smith, who was a source of entertainment throughout the day. During the speeches, Melanie’s dad paid tribute to her mother who is no longer with us, which was a lovely, if not slightly emotional gesture.

The heavy rain didn’t stop us from running outside for some photos, which led to some epic images. We also grabbed some on the stunning fairy-lit patio, in the alleyway at the back of the hotel, and in front of the stained-glass windows. It really is a beautiful venue to shoot at and I had a great day celebrating with Melanie and Brian.
